Head rebuild and repair

Use the mailing address on our Contact/Order page when you send your heads to us.

We prefer you have the cam tops installed on the heads, that makes them safer to ship and we will also verify alignment.

DO NOT SEND BOTH HEADS IN THE SAME BOX UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO ARRIVE DAMAGED!

It doesn't matter if you received them in the same box, if the head is dropped on its corner with 70lbs of weight behind it the cam tower will be junk and you will have a fun time getting UPS to pay for the damage.  We charge $300 per head to align bore new caps in, that is an expense you do not want to take.

 

We offer head rebuild and repairs no matter whose heads you have.  Our prices are not only very competitive with what you might get at your local machine shop, you can feel confident that you are also getting the best performance possible out of your heads.  Many local machine shops are not performance oriented, and even fewer have the specialized knowledge and tools to make each of the particular castings perform their best.  As shown in the photos below we can repair most any type of damage which is important if you have a high dollar set of ported heads that need serious work. 

We have worked with most all stock and ported modular heads available and can offer the following:

 

 


 

 

Basic rebuild

Includes performance valve job, regrind of your valves, CBN surfacing (milling) , full cleaning, new valve seals, and assembly (assembly does not include cams, lifters or rockers).  This can be done to stock or ported heads.  Minor TIG welding work is included if there is minor damage to the head. 

We will not do this to heads that still have OEM guides as unless they are brand new they are way outside of our tolerances. 

Price is per pair:

2V - $300

3V - $350

4V - $400

 

New straight bronze guides are $10 each installed if any guides need to be replaced.

Timeserts for bad spark plug threads are $25 each

Removal of previously installed inserts is $20 each unless they are Helicoil only (Helicoil removal is free)

We can install new valves, springs, retainers, etc., as well.

 


 

 

Upgrade rebuild

Includes all new straight bronze guides, performance valve job, regrind of your valves, CBN surfacing (milling), full cleaning, new valve seals, and assembly (assembly does not include cams, lifters or rockers).  This can be done to stock or ported heads.  Minor TIG welding work is included if there is minor damage to the head. 

We also will bowl port the short side radius of the intake port if desired (no cost extra).

Price is per pair:

2V - $450

3V - $500

4V - $600

 

Timeserts for bad spark plug threads are $25 each

Nick's crazy 2V deluxe $595 rebuild

Take the Upgrade rebuild above and include polishing and degreeing of your cams, completely assemble heads with rebuilt lash adjusters, and ship them back to your door in the lower 48 states!

Patriot 2V specific rebuild - The early versions of these heads had a problem with the valve, valve guide, and seal interface.  We install all new 21-4N stainless steel 1.78" intake valves with different specs, and rework/modify the intake guide to seal properly to the new valve seals.  includes performance valve job, CBN surfacing (milling), full cleaning, new valve seals, and assembly (assembly does not include cams, lifters or rockers).  Minor TIG welding work is included if there is minor damage to the head.

2V Stage 2 - $450

2V Stage 3 - $500

A sample of extreme head repair 

 

 

This is a high dollar set of CNC ported PI heads a customer needed a serious repair on.  Total bill for this repair was $125 in addtion to the general repair price posted above.  This included the welding, porting/grinding, installation of new exhaust seat, installation of new Timesert spark plug insert, and pressure testing the head.

Here we have cleaned the chamber and removed the steel spark plug insert.
Next step is to grind to find fresh aluminum for the weld to stick to.
TIG welding a new spark plug protrusion and filling the hole that was formed.
Grinding of new spark plug protrusion and exhaust port to bring it back to the original shape and profile.  Also the threads have been cut for the Timesert.
Finished job with new exhaust seat, and a new spark plug insert.  The water jacket behind the weld was tested to 45lbs of air pressure to ensure no cracks or leaks.
