There is a lot of talk that the stock bolts
are super soft and junk after a single tightening. Even the
factory manuals say this. However let me state that the below
came directly from a Ford engineer that was part of the modular
design team:
"Nick, You can torque the head bolts and
main bolts a maximum of 5 times. Keep in mind that the main bolts
are torqued a minimum of twice at the plant. The head bolts a
minimum of once. If the engine was repaired, then you can add one
more time to each."
Now I will state that I have reused every bolt on the motor
including the head bolts and never seen a stock bolt fail. The only
failures I have seen are ARP (head stud, crank bolt, rod bolt) and
each broke just putting the motor together. IMHO - if its a first
time rebuild every bolt could be reused with no problem.
