Shortblocks and rotating assemblies
|
While we offer some bottom end components, we
do not typically build shortblocks or longblocks. Some
people have asked why since nearly everyone else does. The first and main
reason is time, we don't have enough time just to cover the cylinder head
orders as it is. The second reason is that I will not sell a shortblock unless I
know each and every clearance and part is near perfect and that
requires a lot of precision blueprinting. To blueprint a shortblock to
the same level as we do blueprinting the heads is a full day to 2 day
job.
The last motor we helped on was Jeff Stafford's NMRA part and after
totaling up the time we had 15 hours into the shortblock alone just
pre-building, testing, disassembling and measuring every clearance
properly. And that was after having another
machine shop test, measure, and adjust the piston pin bores, the rod
small and big bores, the balancing, etc. In the end to cover the cost of spending half a week worth of labor blueprinting and packaging a motor is a serious cost and why some very good shops charge so much and some have prices just only slightly higher than what you can buy the raw parts for. Some are even sending you the parts drop shipped directly from the manufacturers, obviously nobody has tested those to see how they fit together. You usually get what you pay for. We build the heads for high end motors at the shops listed in our dealer page. If you want a quality shortblock or longblock that will not grenade the first time you take it to the track please look through those listings.
