Dyno comparisions
| I hear everyday some wants to hit some certain peak power number from a roller dyno under uncontrolled weather conditions. For one you cannot compare dyno numbers from one shop to another especially if they are located in different states. Here is a discussion on a 13% difference in dynos in the same city: http://www.modularrevolution.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17144 Here is a good discussion showing the differences between SAE and STD and how some numbers get inflated in colder weather: SAE vs STD discussion Then consider that the dyno can also be "tweeked" by the operator to produce higher numbers, one should finally realize that a dyno run is a tool for tuning and tweeking the car and little more. Here is a thread showing what I considered to be inflated numbers and some interesting comments from an experienced dyno tuner: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143782 Here is another very good thread on this subject with good input from experienced tuners: http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1183181 Here is an article published in Popular Hot Rodding showing how a good tuner can "tweek" the numbers: Popular Hot Rodding article Here is another article in Hot Rod where they took the same car to many locations and came back with many different numbers: Hot Rod article |
