When to use ARP bolts and studs
|
I get asked this all the time and here are my
opinions. The stock OEM bolts are good for at least 600RWHP
and there are many instances of stock longblock 03-04 Cobras with
800RWHP under very high boost. I have also never seen a stock
cam or crank bolt fail but I have seen a few ARP fail in the crank
now. Whether it was installation error or a defective bolt
nobody knows, but with the load required of the bolt the stock parts are
just fine for these locations. However if I were building a
engine capable of 600RWHP or higher is the point I would use ARP
studs for both the mains and the heads. Below that power level
its just not needed IMHO but beyond that power level its good
insurance.
